Newly renovated under the watchful eye of Singapore-based Paul Burley, the course today is far more difficult than the one in which Nick Price won in 1994. He worked closely with Peter Dawson (CEO of R&A) and Martin Ebert (Golf Course Architect) to add length, fairway bunkers (76 today versus 65 then), and six new championship tees.

The hardest aspect of the course though remains, as with all British Opens, the harsh winds which, according to Burley, "can blow very hard off the sea, so you'll need to be able to hit it low and keep it under the wind."

WHO WILL WIN?
All three Open Championships at Ailsa has been won by the No.1 player at the time, but Tiger Woods showed he was human at the recent US Open (June 2009) in the wet and wild Bethpage Black where his putting left everyone, including himself, groaning. But who's going to rule him out, right?

Let us know who you'll be rooting for and why ... and perhaps we can make this interesting ;) if you know what I mean.

  1. And I’ll be there next week ! Turnberry is the essence of Scottish golf, bettered only by perhaps St Andrews and Muirfield.

Hope the wind blows too !

  2. Oh, that’s just not right. We are sooo jealous! Yes, we hope the winds blow and blow and blow. Will you be rooting for anyone in particular?
